How do I maintain good oral health?
There are three main components to maintaining good oral health: brushing your teeth, flossing between teeth and gums, and using a ADA approved mouthwash. When purchasing a new toothbrush, select one with soft-bristles unless otherwise recommended by your dentist. Toothbrushes should be replaced every 3 months or once the bristles have begun to fray.
What happens during a regular dental cleaning?
Attending routine dental cleanings ensures that your teeth are as healthy as they can be. A dental hygienist will remove any plaque or tartar buildup on and between your teeth and gums as well as conduct a visual exam of your teeth and gums. Using a small mirror, the hygienist carefully inspects each tooth and cleans each tooth individually. A dental cleaning is not generally painful, but can cause mild discomfort for some patients during the procedure due to the scraping or removal of plaque and tartar.
